Study Computer Science or Computing at the University of Leicester and you will be a member of the Times Higher Education University of the year 2008/9. We also won the Times Higher Education Outstanding Support for Students 2009/10 award. Our department is currently ranked 13th by the Guardian league table (out of over 100 departments). We welcome UK, EU and international students. Our degrees are fully accredited by the British Computer Society and offer opportunities for our graduates to achieve the awards of Chartered IT Professional (CITP), Chartered Engineer (CEng) and Chartered Scientist (CSci). As such, we are looking for high quality applicants who are keen to study for the programmes we offer and who wish to contribute to all aspects of the life of the Department. Our degrees have been designed to help you develop the skills that are key for developing your potential to innovate: creativity, problem-solving, imagination, resourcefulness, and flexibility. These are the skills that employers around the world are looking for and will secure you a rewarding career. And this is true whether you wish to work for world class computing companies that are developing new software and technologies, enter the world of business and finance, or you would like to work for other kinds of employer where your knowledge of computing, abilities to solve problems, and capacity to innovate can be put to good use. You will find at Leicester people who are equally passionate about Computer Science: teachers who will take you through the challenges of writing faster algorithms, handling complex graphics, devising security protocols, or making use of the latest web technologies; and colleagues with whom you will be exchanging ideas, experiences, working on projects and, who knows, starting joint ventures! Overall, you will learn how to "think computationally". We run an Industrial Advisory Board: its members are computer scientists who have held successful careers in industry and help us ensure that your training is industrially relevant.
