Quorn - Swithland, May 13, 2001

May 13, 2001

First warm summer day with at the end of the day a threat of an approaching thunderstorm.

Highlights: the five black terns and the two common sandpipers on Swithland reservoir. Plus the discovery of the Quorn quaries where one can freely walk despite Food and Mouth. The Lesser Spotted Woodpecker was heard there, near the main office entrance not far from the overpass/gorge where one can listen to many songbirds. Stockdoves may breed on the rocky cliffs of quaries, and the Sand Martins found a sand cliff. Possibly 40-50 nests.

Quorn can be reached on Sundays by bus 121 and 125 as well as by steam train.

Location of observations is Swithland reservoir unless explicitly mentioned Quorn.
