Filey Brigg, Hornsea and Spurn

October 21, 2001

This was the pleasantly small scale montly outdoor meeting of the Leicestershire and Rutland Ornithological Society (LROS) organized by Tim Groves. First rain and later fog and grey weather for most of the day. The sun made some weak attempts after 4 pm.

Barred Warbler, a supposed Richard's Pipit, Red-thoated Diver, Curlew, Red Knot, White-winged Tern, Black Redstart, Eider, Ruddy Turnstone and Northern Gannet were new for my UK list.

The real interest was in the impressive massive migration: lots of thrushes and goldcrests were apparently on the wing this day, accompanied by two Short-eared owls.
