As mentioned on my home page, whilst I was College Academic Director I did not teach as much as I used to as I was only half-time in the Department of Computer Science; however, now that I have left that role I am back full-time in the department. I still love teaching and it is (for me) one of the most enjoyable aspects of being an academic.

I currently convene and teach two modules. The first is Discrete Structures; the departmental specification for this module may be found here and the teaching resources page here. The second is Automata, Languages and Computation; the departmental specification for this module may be found here and the teaching resources page here.

Some recent teaching includes the M.Sc. module Discrete Event Systems (you can find the current departmental specification for this module here and the teaching resources page here). For many years (in fact, from the inception of that degree) I contributed to the Interdisciplinary Science degree (now "Natural Sciences"), where I taught part of the module Braining IT: Neuroscience and Computation. I also contributed to the B.A. degree in Management Studies, where I taught the module Understanding and Using Statistical Information; the specification for this module may be found here and the teaching resources page here. I also contributed to the Computer Science M.Sc. module Personal and Group Skills; the departmental specification for this module may be found here and the teaching resources page here.

It is always nice to get recognition for one's teaching. I was particularly pleased to win the I love my academic award, which is run by the Students' Union, for the College of Science and Engineering in 2012; you can find some further details about my award here together with the official University press release here. We have wonderful students here at Leicester and their appreciation of our efforts is the major reason why teaching is such a rewarding experience.
