APG seminar

First year PhD students will study one or more research papers in their area and give an in-depth presentation. Responsible for the details are the respective supervisors. All students have to attend the presentations of the other students. Students write an abstract and send it a couple of days before their presentation to the the mailing lists comp_sci and cs_postgrad to announce the specific topic of the presentation and allow interested staff and postgrads to attend. Students should also prepare a one or two page handout for the audience which includes a summary of their talk and a bibliography.

The objectives are the following:
  • Students show that they are able to read and understand in depth one or more research papers.
  • Students improve their presentation skills.
  • Students ask questions and engage in a discussion on the presented topics.
  • Students learn about the topics and areas of their fellow students.
  • Students get feedback from supervisors.
