Waders in Azuma-machi and Amada
Azuma-machi, Ukishima, Amada, August 21, 1999
Dear Kantorians, With Ikenaga-san I made a rewarding trip to the
Azuma-machi ricefields and we returned via Ukishima, Amada and the south coast of Kasumiguara near Kihara and Ami. Part of the trip we were joined and guided by
Asuka-san, who took the following nice picture of us: picture. [The picture catches me at rare moment:I forgot to bring my binoculars on this birding trip] In total we saw 18 (!) wader species. Last year at August
18 we had 22, but then we also visited Tokyo bay.
Also of interest was the Japanese Marsh Warbler that we heard singing several times in the Amada area. Perhaps it has been breeding there this summer?
Like last year it
was hot (32 degrees and full sun).
Keep birding,
Fer-Jan.
Numbers are not precise countings, just rough
estimates.
