Evening observations of Tamashigi
Ami-Kihara-coast of Kasumigaura, June 4,
1999: 9-10 pm.
The aim was to listen to the
Tamashigi (painted snipes) at the spots where I had listened to them
one year ago. Much too my disappointment I could relocate only one
calling female towards Ami, The sites east of Kihara might have been
disturbed by road building. Unexpected was an enthousiasticly calling
Fukurou (Ural owl) in the tall tree along Road 125 opposite a
convenience store near Kihara. Apart from these two birds and various
frog choirs the most prominent singer in the evening was the
Ou-yoshikiri (Great Reed Warbler). I wonder why only some of the birds
are singing in the night: during daytime a great many more are
singing. Participants: Izumita Tomoko and Fer-Jan de Vries.
Weather: One week after full moon, partly overcast.
Ami-Kihara-coast of Kasumigaura, June 5,
1999: 5-6 pm.
Two calling birds east of Ami, and two (possibly three) calling west of Ami near the Hanamura.
Participants: Fer-Jan de Vries.
Weather: Warm after a hot and sunny day
