Dear colleagues, I hope you're well and enjoying a lovely week in your departments. You'll now no doubt be aware of the new University Report and Support platform, therefore we wanted to take the opportunity to update you on the Students' Union support available as we've undergone various changes in the past 6 months. We're trying to spread the word on this to staff and students to improve signposting and access to us, so please do read on, forward on to colleagues and refer away. Please do also update your various communications about our service when possible also e.g. webpages etc. The Students' Union Support functions are: 1. Advice Service - provides advice and support on academic, housing and signposting needs, 2. Leicester Talks Support Services Directory - provides details of all Students' Union, University, student-led, community and online support functions in one place for improved signposting for students and staff, 3. Peer Mentoring Scheme - provides all campus based first year students with a peer to help them settle in to University life, 4. Wellbeing Officer and Part-time Liberation Officers - elected students that represent and campaign for students on a wide variety of issues, 5. Self-improvement workshops - designed to help students improve knowledge and confidence on various skills, 6. How to Adult guidance - online information to help students transition in to independent living and beyond, 7. Reporting incidents guidance - provides students and staff with an overview of what and how they can report incidents via the University or Students' Union, 8. Drinkaware Club Crew - a team of trained student staff working in the O2 club nights to provide welfare and wellbeing support to the students on a night out, 9. Drop-in clinics running from the Advice Service - Headspace mental health, Free Legal Advice, Victim First and Therapy Dog clinics run throughout term-time. The attached briefing provides you with a quick reference overview of the key functions of the Advice Service and Leicester Talks. This includes signposting to the our Advice Service team via our online form (rather than email/phone where possible please). Leicester Talks is a tool for all at UoL to use, it's aim is to improve knowledge and access to services, but also to help you change the culture further here and encourage all students no matter what background and norms, to talk to these services and get the support they need. We therefore encourage you to utilise the resources available, these are attached and include: 1. Digital versions - to post on your webpages, TV screens, Blackboard, staff resource areas etc, 2. Print versions - to encourage you to have the resources printed to the numbers required for your service and make available to students and staff - University Print Services & Instantprint both good print services. We're building further webpages to support the Standing Together initiative and have various equality, liberation and inclusivity functions and campaigns of our own. Look out for updates on these. Many thanks for your time here, thanks for your support thus far and we look forward to continue working further with you all. Do let us know any queries on the above or if you have any students you'd like advice on.
